Brian Murphy

Brian Murphy started his marine insurance career with Starr Marine in 1995 where he worked for seventeen years in various roles of increasing responsibility in both the New York and Chicago offices. He left Starr in April 2012 to start up the commercial marine division at Berkley Offshore (a W.R. Berkley company) where he currently serves as Senior Vice President – Head of Marine. He is a former chair of the Hull Committee for the American Institute of Marine Underwriters (AIMU) and currently serves on their Board of Directors and as Director of Finances. He serves as Chair of the Legal & Liability Committee for the International Union of Marine Insurance (IUMI), and as Vice Chair – Finance for the USMMA Alumni Association & Foundation. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Transportation from the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, NY as well as the Chartered Property & Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and Associate in Marine Insurance Management (AMIM) designations, and maintains his U.S. Coast Guard license (Third Mate – Unlimited Tonnage – Continuity Only). He lives in Farmingdale, NY with his wife, Jeanne, three children, and one large dog.
